All ship shape. A very nice sail but the strong current and light wind made the beat up river difficult. The paddle was used often to compensate for the current when on the short tack and also when going about or I would have been sailing pretty much on the spot. The headsails need to be recut as it they are not flat and this causes a problem setting them correctly. Likewise the leech of the main. Basically I need to buy professionally made sails. The balance isn't quite correct either. However, Naiad does sail but could be better.

Moored up along side the bank downstream of the last Littleport river bridge and rasied the mast. This is tricky since this is currently the lee shore as the bank on the weather shore is not suiable for mooring.

Moored up on pontoon 15, Naiad's home for 2018. This has been a wet, cold and tiring sail. The first section from Ely to Littelport was reasonable, the wind was either from the starboard quarter or the starboard beam but light. No beating required and it was a very leisuely sail and sometimes paddleing would certainly have been quicker. The paddling through Littleport was wet and I could have done without that. The wind would probably have been sufficient to sail, albeit slowly. I had intended to raise the mast and sail but just didn't do it. Lesson learnt. The sail form Littleport to the DCC moorings was utterly sublime. I was drenched, cold and tired, I had to stand in the cockpit the try to stop from getting any wetter, the wind had entorely too much North in it requiring beating all the way but the sailing was great. Having arrived, put out temporary mooring ropes and tidied the ship, had a hot cup of tea and a hot rice meal I crawled back into my bunk for 90 minutes sleep before Tia arrived to take me home.
