2016.10.19 - Port Cockpit Locker IV

Today sees the end of the main construction of the port cockpit seat and locker with the finishing of the oak top. It was shopping day today so I didn't get a lot of time to spend on Naiad this evening, nevertheless, I did complete the task I had set myself.

Here is the seat and locker. I still have to add the latch, which I will do tomorrow, and add the beading and take the whole thing to bits and seal it where required.

Here you can see both lockers.

This completes the major construction of the cockpit. What remains is the capping rail to finish the coaming edge, the rail at the front of the lazarette slats, the supports for the cockpit tents, the mountings for the heads'l sheet cleats, the cam cleats for the up and down hauls on the rudder and the trimming and rounding of the edges that will be in human contact. All small jobs but ones that will probably take several days to complete. I think it would be a good idea to complete the coaming first since climbing in and out of the cockpit can rub agains the still sharp edges and the capping rail will prevent that. I like to think that I'll be able to get it all done by the end of the weekend. We shall see.
